Denver Couple Raise Funds to Fight Cancer Through Fitness and Fun

[Denver, CO, February 27, 2018]

Local Denver residents Olivia Leigh and Patrick Anderson are helping the fight against cancer, raising funds through fitness and fun! Through their group, Giving Wheels, they’ve teamed up with other fitness enthusiasts to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Challenged Athletes Foundation!

Active lifestyle enthusiasts and founders of Colorado-based lifestyle startup Zealology, Liv and Patrick have a personal passion for supporting both an active lifestyle and causes that are dear to them. At age 16, Liv survived a terrorist bombing and lost her right foot in the attack. Patrick’s life was touched by cancer, as he lost both his parents to the disease. Facing those tragedies, Liv and Patrick have dedicated themselves to helping others faced by similar tragedies.

Both are currently in training for June bike ride that will take them 100 miles around Lake Tahoe. Riding as members of Team Survivor, they’ve set the ambitious goal of raising $100,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Having already raised $50,000, they are not only raising funds but working in the community to spread awareness about the groundbreaking research LLS is conducting.

In addition to the cycling event, they’ve also planned several local fundraisers to get them to their funding goal, including a Sip & Paint Party, a lip synch and karaoke night, and St. Patrick’s Day Zumbathon event.

For the Zumbathon event, Liv and Patrick have teamed with local Zumba instructor Megs Burd for a St. Patrick’s Day dance party at Axistence Athletics, inviting everyone to jump on the floor to help raise funds. With a suggested donation of $10 going to support LLS, participants will not only be helping support a great cause, but get in a shamrock-shakin’ dose of Zumba! During the 90 minute party event, Zumba instructors will lead participants (both newbies and experienced Zumba pros) in fun-filled, high energy dance routines, including an Irish jig. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best St. Patrick’s Day outfits, with prizes awarded for best costume.

“People love to party on St. Patrick’s Day, and what better way than to dance and help a great cause,” says Megs, who will be serving as one of the Zumba instructors for the event. “I’m so excited to attend a Zumba party that not only gets me and Colorado dancers moving, but raises funds for such a great cause. I can’t wait to shake it in my best green gear!”

With the Zumbathon and other events, Liv and Patrick hope to reach other Colorado-area residents to inspire both active lifestyles and a lifestyle of giving.

“My mom and dad were both such fighters and I like to think I honor them by continuing to help fight cancer,” Patrick commented when asked about his support for LLS. “Fundraising is hard. Training is hard. But after seeing what they went through fighting cancer, it’s nothing. You just have to dig a little deeper and remember why this is so important.”
